It’s no secret we’re living in a highly digital world. Nowadays, children as young as 5 years old are already proficient with a mobile device, and pretty much everyone has at least one social media account that they use on a regular basis.
It’s because of this that IT has become one of the most profitable sectors of work, not to mention one that’s literally riddled with exciting opportunities. And though we’re often hearing how lucrative it is to occupy a position in the IT industry, we’re rarely told what those positions are exactly. So we thought we’d rectify that and have a look at some of the best IT jobs to have.

1. Mobile App Developer.

Mobile app developers are and will continue to be in great demand for the foreseeable future, with any given person using at least a dozen apps on a daily basis. Aside from the obvious coding skills required, a mobile app developer will also need some knowledge on mobile frameworks, and they’ll need to be able to distinguish between developing for mobile and for desktop. Different mediums call for different coding languages, of course, and with the rabid ascendence of mobile devices, it’s safe to say mobile is the way of the future.

2. Big Data Engineer.

We’re hearing a lot about personal data, Internet security, and so on, but do you ever stop to consider how truly massive the amount of stored data is? Websites amass astonishing mountains of information about their users, and someone needs to know what to do with all that. A big data engineer will usually be in charge of designing both the hardware and the software for a website or program, as well as handling the way that website handles the new data that comes in. It’s a big job and someone’s gotta do it!

3. IT Security Manager.

It’s not just the engineers who are handling your data. Now more than ever, companies are vying for the best security managers out there because a security breach has the potential of destroying everything they’ve worked for. An information systems security manager will combine leadership and problem-solving skills with considerable IT knowledge. They will also have to keep an eye on the latest security and Internet trends, to make sure their company stays at the top of its game.

4. DevOps Engineer.

DevOps engineers are a sort of highly knowledgeable middle-man that creates a much-needed link between the coding team itself and the company’s engineers. Naturally, in order to be able to work with both departments, a DevOps engineer needs to have a reasonable amount of knowledge both in coding languages, as well as software engineering. The job will also require some leadership skills and the ability to work well with other people.

5. Application Architect

Once again, mobile applications are the way of the future, which is why application architects are some of the best-paid people in the IT game. These people need the ability to plan ahead and structure the app’s infrastructure, as well as the user interface (the part the users actually see). Moreover, a skilled app architect needs people skills because more often than not, it’s an entire team of people working together on an app, rather than one sole developer. And these people need to work well together so that the app can be a success.

6. Data Scientist

Ah, the never-ending quest for data. Yes, Data Scientists use their statistical and analytical skills to analyze data from multiple sources. They are working for big organizations who need Data Scientists to collect and evaluate their data to find solutions in order to face business challenges.

7. Full Stack Developer

Full Stack Developers are in the list with the highest paying jobs in IT. They are responsible for the front and back-end development. Their duties include the design of the front and back end of a Website, setting up Databases and Servers and maintaining them.
